Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Cut the apples in half and using a paring knife carefully remove the core. I like to make a hole in the center of the apple so there is room for the crumb mixture.
Drizzle the cut side of the apples with lemon juice. Then brush them with the tablespoon of melted butter and granulated sugar and cinnamon.
Brown Butter
Add 6 tablespoons of butter to a small saucepan. Cook on medium high heat for 5 minutes or so or until the butter starts to turn a light caramel color. Make sure to keep an eye on this and swirl the butter often.
Make Crumb Filling
To a large bowl add the browned butter, oats, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, cloves, allspice and salt. Stir to combine until the mixture gets crumbly.
Fill each apple cavity with the crumb mixture.
Bake
Place in the oven and bake for 20-30 minutes or until the apples are tender and the crumb filling is golden brown and crisp.
Serve immediately with whipped cream, caramel sauce or ice cream, if desired.
