Kelley’s Tips
Before You Get Started
- Soften the butter and cream cheese. Make sure both are at room temperature for easy whipping and a smooth, creamy texture.
- Whip thoroughly. Mixing the butter and cream cheese until light and fluffy gives the Boursin its signature airy texture.
- Taste before salting. Roasted garlic and fresh herbs add plenty of flavor, so you may not need much extra salt.
- Prep for shaping. Line your measuring cup or container with plastic wrap to make it easy to remove and serve the cheese.
Boursin Cheese Ingredients

- Unsalted Butter – Adds richness and a creamy base for the cheese. Make sure it’s softened to room temperature for easy whipping.
- Cream Cheese – Provides the smooth, tangy base for Boursin.
- Fresh Herbs – Infuse the cheese with bright, fresh flavors. I like to use parsley, thyme, and rosemary.
- Roasted Garlic – Adds depth and a subtle sweetness. Roast until tender and golden for the best flavor, then squeeze out of the skin.
- Olive Oil – Helps roast the garlic evenly and enhances flavor. Drizzle lightly over garlic before wrapping in foil.
Homemade Boursin Cheese From Scratch
- Prepare garlic: Preheat the oven to 400°F. Place the garlic head, top cut off, on a small piece of foil. Drizzle with olive oil and season with salt and pepper. Wrap the foil completely around the garlic.
- Roast and cool: Bake for 30–40 minutes until the garlic is tender and golden, not burnt. Let cool for at least 15 minutes before handling.

- Whip and season: Add butter and cream cheese to a stand mixer with the whisk attachment. Whip on medium-high speed until light and fluffy. Stir in fresh herbs and roasted garlic, then taste and season with a pinch of salt and pepper.

- Shape and chill: Line a 1-cup measuring cup with plastic wrap, leaving enough to overhang. Press the cheese mixture into the cup, cover with the overhanging plastic, and twist to secure. Chill until ready to serve.

- Serve: Enjoy with crackers, veggies, or bread!
