Before you get started / Kelley’s tips

    • Don’t Skip the Maple Syrup! A little bit of maple syrup adds the perfect amount of sweetness to balance out the savory flavor. This gives it the quintessential breakfast sausage flavor!
    • Cook Over Medium Heat. Cooking the sausages over medium heat helps them cook through more evenly without just burning on the outside.
    • Make Extra for Meal Prep. These sausages store great in the fridge, so double or triple the recipe to enjoy them all week long!

    Ingredients

    • Ground chicken: I love using ground chicken in breakfast sausages as it’s less dense than pork and healthier too! My husband was shocked when I told him these were made with chicken and not pork.
    • Spices: A combination of garlic powder, onion powder, sage, thyme, fennel, and salt and pepper gives the breakfast sausages that classic sausage flavor!
    • Maple syrup: Adds just a hint of sweetness, but it takes these sausages to the next level.
    • Olive oil: For frying the sausages. It makes the outside crispy, but leaves the sausages tender and juicy on the inside.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use ground turkey instead of ground chicken?

Yes! Ground turkey works just as well as ground chicken in this recipe. It will give you a similar texture and flavor, though turkey might be slightly leaner.

How do I store leftover sausages?

Leftover sausages can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days. You can also freeze them up to 3 months. Reheat them in a skillet or microwave until warmed through.

Can I make these sausages spicy?

Of course! If you like a bit of heat, you can add a pinch of cayenne pepper or crushed red pepper flakes to the sausage mixture. Adjust to your taste for the perfect kick!
