Maple Candied Pecans
These candied pecans are delicious as a snack or appetizer. They are also great on a salad for an added crunch! I love to serve these easy candied pecans during the holidays or give them away as a gift.
What I love most about this recipe is that the pecans are naturally sweetened with maple syrup. I prefer making my candied pecans with maple syrup versus brown sugar or granulated sugar. I love the flavor the maple syrup adds.
Best of all you only need 5 ingredients and 10 minutes of prep to make this recipe. They last for up to 2 months in a sealed jar at room temperature. Candied Pecans are a great recipe to double or triple batch so that you always have some on hand, and you can also give them away. Here’s what you’ll need:
Ingredients
- Maple syrup: I like to use a good quality maple syrup. You can substitute honey if you don’t have maple syrup on hand. Just add a couple of extra minutes to cooking time.
- Butter: Salted or unsalted butter works!
- Salt: Adds so much flavor to the pecans. I love the sweet and salty combo!
- Vanilla: Is added for flavor. It really brings out the warmth and sweetness of these Maple Pecans. You can omit it if you don’t like vanilla.
- Pecans: Walnuts, cashews, or almonds would also work great.
How to make Candied Maple Pecans
- Prep: Preheat the oven to 325 degrees. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Mix: Add all of the ingredients to a medium bowl and toss to combine.
- Spread the mixture out into an even layer on the prepared baking sheet.
- Bake for 10 minutes then stir. Bake for an additional 10 minutes or until golden brown and most of the liquid is absorbed.
- Cool: Allow them to sit for 10 minutes and stir again to break up big clumps.
- Store pecans in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 months!
Variations
- Add some cinnamon or pumpkin pie spice to the nuts before roasting.
- For a kick add a pinch of cayenne pepper.
- Add a splash of bourbon instead of the vanilla extract to make Bourbon Maple Pecans!
Tips for Success
- Because of the high sugar content, maple pecans can burn easily while cooking. To prevent this, cook them at a low temperature. I find that 325°F for 10 minutes is just right!
- This recipe can easily be doubled or tripled to make extra to give to friends and family during the holidays. Just make sure to use two or more baking sheets and that the pecans are spread out into an even layer.
- Make it vegan by using plant-based butter.
- Store Maple Pecans in an airtight container (like a jar) at room temperature for up to 2 months.
What is a maple pecan?
Maple pecans are pecans that are heated and coated in maple syrup. Then they cool down and become hard and crunchy. They make a deliciously addictive snack or toss it on top of a salad. You can even give them away as a gift!

Pecans are a nut that does have a natural sweetness to them, but not sweet like candy. Cooking them with maple syrup enhances their natural sweetness.

For the butter…. can you help? I assume maybe melted butter. But I can also see how dicing soft butter and making it melt in the oven could be one way how you do it. I don’t want to do something to cause it to burn.
Thanks for clarifying.

Hi!
So sorry for the confusion! Yes the butter should be melted first. I typically just do this in the microwave while I am getting my ingredients together.
Thanks for pointing that out to me.
