    Chocolate Sauce Ingredients

All of the ingredients serve a purpose in making this a rich chocolate sauce recipe. I used semi-sweet chocolate chips and added a pinch of sugar to sweeten it up a little bit.

    • Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips: The main ingredient for this recipe are the semi-sweet chocolate chips which are rich in flavor but not too sweet.
    • Heavy Whipping Cream: The heavy whipping cream will make this homemade chocolate sauce so creamy and delicious.
    • Salt: A pinch of salt is also added to bring out the natural sweetness in the chocolate.
    • Sugar: Add as much or as little sugar as you prefer and always remember to sweeten to taste!
    • Water: Adding water to this sauce recipe will help it thin out a bit so it’s not too thick.
    • Corn Syrup: This ingredient will provide a nice gloss and help to create a thick, almost candy like shell to the sauce.

How To Make Homemade Chocolate Sauce

    • Begin by heating chocolate chips and heavy cream in a small saucepan over low heat, stirring constantly. The chocolate typically takes about 2 minutes to melt. (You do not want the chocolate to burn!)

    Tips and Variations

    • If you are feeling creative add in vanilla, almond extract or even peppermint extract to your chocolate sauce recipe.
    • Alcohol (brandy or rum) make good additions too.
    • You can even use this sauce as a dip for fresh fruit.
    • Add some peanut butter or Nutella to the melted chocolate to add more flavor!
    • To make your own chocolate shavings, flash freeze this homemade chocolate sauce spread thin on wax paper, then crumble and use them on ice cream!
    • Change up the chocolate! Milk chocolate, dark chocolate, or even white chocolate would work here.
    • Why do we add salt to the chocolate sauce? There is actually surprising science behind adding salt to sweets. Adding salt registers our sweet taste cell.
    • No corn syrup? Just double the water and the taste will be unaffected.

    Storage, Freezing, and Reheating Instructions

    • Store leftover chocolate dipping sauce in an airtight container in your fridge for up to a week.
    • Freeze cooled sauce in an airtight, freezer-safe container or plastic bag for up to 6 months.
