What’s in Apple Cinnamon Oatmeal

This easy Apple Cinnamon Oatmeal recipe is a cinch to make and only requires a few pantry staples! You’ll need: unsalted butter, an apple, ground cinnamon, old-fashioned oats, water, pure maple syrup, pure vanilla extract, and some milk.

As far as what type of apple to use, it’s totally up to you! I recommend one with a crisp texture so it holds up well to the heat. I like using honey crisp, granny smith, or gala apples.

Also, make sure to use old-fashioned oats and not instant or steel-cut oats. It has great health benefits and cooks in very little time.

Tip: If you want to lighten up this homemade oatmeal recipe, then swap coconut oil for the butter and use a plant-based milk like oat or almond!

How To Make Apple Cinnamon Oatmeal

  • Prepare Your Cinnamon Apples: Melt the butter in a medium saucepan. Add in apples and sauté for 3-4 minutes over medium-high heat, or until the apples start to get tender. (Do not overcook them, or they’ll turn to mush when you cook them with the oatmeal.) Sprinkle in the cinnamon, and toss to coat.

  • Cook the Oats: Add in the oats and water then cook on medium high heat until almost all of the liquid has absorbed and the mixture has thickened, 3-4 minutes. Stir in maple syrup and vanilla, and mix well.

I made this last weekend and it was delicious. I ate half and had the other half for breakfast the next morning. It heated up well in the microwave. I wanted to add additional cinnamon but was out so I added pumpkin pie spice which includes cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg.
