    Kelley Simmons Kelley’s Tips

    Before You Get Started

    • Use a ripe banana. The riper, the better! It adds natural sweetness and that classic banana bread flavor to the syrup.
    • Don’t skip the blender. Blending the syrup helps create a smooth, pourable texture that is much more appetizing in the latte. Just make sure to let it cool slightly first!
    • Try it hot. Not a fan of iced drinks? This recipe works just as well served warm. Simply heat the milk and syrup before combining with espresso, then top with the whipped cream.

    Ingredients

    Banana Bread Syrup

    • Maple Syrup – Instead of regular sugar I opted for a more natural option with maple syrup. You could also use honey instead.
    • Banana – A super ripe banana gives the syrup its classic banana bread taste as well as sweetness. The riper the better!
    • Vanilla Bean Paste – Adds rich vanilla flavor with those beautiful flecks of vanilla bean. If you don’t have vanilla bean paste you can use 1 tsp of vanilla extract.
    • Cinnamon & Nutmeg – Mimics the comforting aroma and taste of freshly baked banana bread.

    Latte

    • Espresso – Provides a bold, rich coffee base. I like to do 2 shots of espresso in my latte but for a more mild coffee flavor you could do 1 shot instead.
    • Milk – Creates a creamy, smooth texture. Use any milk you like. Dairy or non-dairy both work well!
    • Ice – Keeps it chilled and refreshing. Bonus points for crushed ice!

    Whipped Cream

    • Heavy Cream – Whips up light and airy, perfect for topping the latte.
    • Banana Bread Syrup – Sweetens the whipped cream and ties the whole drink together with even more banana bread flavor.

    1. Make the banana bread whipped cream: Add heavy cream and syrup to the bowl of a stand mixer with the whisk attachment. Beat cream on medium speed until soft peaks form about 2-3 minutes, set aside until ready to use.
    2. Pour drink in glass: Fill a large glass with ice. Pour espresso, milk and syrup on top. Stir to combine.
    3. Top with whipped cream and syrup: Top with the banana bread whipped cream a drizzle more of banana bread syrup and a dusting of cinnamon on top. Enjoy!

      Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use store-bought syrup instead of homemade?

This recipe is all about the homemade banana bread syrup! It’s key for giving the latte its unique “banana bread” flavor. But if you’re really in a pinch, you could use a banana-flavored syrup and add a dash of cinnamon and nutmeg to mimic the flavor.

Can I use instant coffee instead of espresso?

Yes, you can! Dissolve 1–2 teaspoons of instant espresso powder in a few tablespoons of hot water for a similar effect.

      Want to serve hot instead?

Steam your milk then add in syrup and espresso. Serve with whipped cream on top if desired!
