    Kelley Simmons Kelley’s Tips

    Before You Get Started

    • Toast the orzo. Sautéing the orzo with butter and onions before adding the liquid gives it a slightly nutty flavor and prevents it from becoming mushy.
    • Use room temperature Boursin. Letting the Boursin sit out for a few minutes before adding it to the orzo helps it melt more easily into the sauce.
    • Customize it. Add sautéed mushrooms, rotisserie chicken, or crispy bacon for a heartier dish, or swap in kale in place of the spinach.

    Ingredients

    • Unsalted butter – Adds richness and is used to help toast the orzo.
    • Onion & Garlic – Add so much flavor to the orzo!
    • Orzo – Cooks up creamy and tender, absorbing all the yummy flavors in the pan.
    • Milk – Adds creaminess to the sauce.
    • Chicken broth – Infuses the orzo with savory, well-seasoned flavor.
    • Boursin cheese – This soft, herbed cheese melts into the sauce for a creamy, garlicky kick.
    • Parmesan cheese – Adds a salty, nutty finish, and it helps thicken up the sauce.
    • Lemon zest – Brightens everything up with a little citrus kick.
    • Fresh spinach – Adds a pretty pop of color and extra nutrition!

How to Make Creamy Boursin Orzo

    1. Melt butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
    2. Add in the onions and orzo and saute for 3-4 minutes or until the pasta and onions start to get some color on them. Add in garlic and cook for an additional minute.
    3. Pour in the milk and chicken broth. Add in the Boursin cheese and stir to break it up.
      1. Bring the mixture to a boil then reduce to a gentle simmer and cook uncovered for 10 minutes. (It’s important to stir every 2-3 minutes to make sure the pasta isn’t sticking to the bottom)
      2. Once the pasta is al-dente remove from the heat and add in the parmesan cheese and spinach. Stir to wilt the spinach. Season with salt and pepper to taste and enjoy!

      Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use a different type of pasta?

Yes! Just make sure it’s a small pasta, something like ditalini or small shells works great. Although, I prefer orzo as it tends to work best because of its creamy, risotto-like texture.

Can I use a different flavor of Boursin?

Yes! Garlic & Fine Herbs is classic and what I used, but other flavors like Shallot & Chive, Basil & Chive, or Caramelized Onion & Herbs also work great—just keep in mind that a different Boursin will slightly change the flavor of the dish.
