Before You Get Started / Kelley’s Tips
- Sauté the chicken so that it gets browned on all sides to create a crust on the outside that seals in all of that delicious juice on the inside.
- Double or even triple the sauce for this honey garlic chicken stir fry to freeze for later!
- Change up the protein by swapping shrimp, tofu, or cubed steak.
- Or keep it vegetarian-friendly by adding more veggies! Asparagus, cauliflower, sugar snap peas, and zucchini (especially zucchini noodles) would be delicious additions.
- Spice it up by adding some sriracha, chili oil, red pepper flakes, or cayenne pepper to the sauce.
Ingredients
- Broccoli: I like using a bag of pre-washed broccoli florets to keep things simple, but you could break apart a crown of broccoli. Stems and flowers, too!
- Chicken Breasts: Boneless, skinless thighs also work. Just depends on your preference!
- Garlic: Adds a bit of spice and vibrant flavor to that delicious sauce.
- Soy Sauce: I recommend using low-sodium t better control the amount of salt in this dish, but use what you’ve got!
- Honey: Granulated sugar or agave nectar would also work, but honey imparts the best flavor for the sauce, in my opinion.
- Sesame Oil: A little bit goes a long way and offers a ton of deeply rich, roasted sesame flavor!
- Cornstarch: This is what makes that luscious sauce so velvety and thick!
How To Make Honey Garlic Chicken Stir Fry
- Sauté the Broccoli: Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a large skillet. Add in the broccoli and sauté until tender and caramelized, 4-5 minutes. Remove from the pan and set aside.
- Cook the Chicken: Add the remaining tablespoon of oil to the same pan. I cook my chicken in two batches to ensure it gets crispy and caramelized on the outside. Add the garlic and cook for an additional minute.
- Make the Sauce: Meanwhile, in a small bowl combine soy sauce, water, honey and sesame oil. Add the sauce to the pan along with the broccoli.
- Add the sauce to the pan along with the broccoli. In a small bowl mix the cornstarch with a tablespoon of cold water. Slowly whisk in the cornstarch mixture into the sauce. Simmer until the sauce has thickened, 1-2 minutes.
- Season with salt and pepper and serve immediately with sesame seeds for garnish, if desired.
Storage Instructions
- Store any cooled leftover honey garlic chicken stir fry in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days. Great for meal-prepping ahead of a busy week!
- Freeze in a freezer-safe, airtight plastic bag (flat) for up to 2 months.
- Reheat in a skillet or in the microwave until bubbling and warmed through.

Great recipe! I used bell peppers, snap peas, and carrots instead of broccoli.

Absolutely loved this ! I took a little longer than 30 mins because I’m a mother of 4 and I would reccommend putting the sauce together as prep work before starting to cook just a personal preference. I give this meal a 10/10!

I didn’t have broccoli so I used asparagus and mushrooms. Added fresh ginger with the garlic added such a good flavor. Topped with green onions and cashews. Was sooo good! Will make again.

Tastes pretty good on it’s own. I would added some red pepper flakes to give it a little heat, maybe a splash of rice vinegar for acid.
You can switch up the broccoli for other veggies as well. I cut the broccoli in half and added some mushrooms.
