Asian Chicken Bites
Is there anything better than sticky asian chicken bites dripping in sauce! The sauce is loaded with SO MUCH FLAVOR! It’s the perfect combination of sweet and tangy with the smallest hint of spice thanks to the sriracha.
I love making takeout inspired dishes like this at home to control the sweetness, saltiness and spiciness to my taste! These Asian Chicken Bites go perfectly with fried rice to soak up all of that delicious sauce.
Best of all this recipe comes together in under 30 minutes! While the chicken is marinating I make the asian inspired sauce. Then I shallow fry the chicken over high heat until it is golden brown on both sides. Then I toss it in the sauce and serve!
Asian Chicken Bite Ingredients
Marinade:
- Chicken: I used boneless skinless chicken breast however chicken thighs work great too!
- Soy Sauce: Is added to flavor the chicken.
- Cornstarch: Helps to tenderize the chicken. Using cornstarch and soy sauce or water as a marinade with chicken is known as “velveting“.
Asian Sauce:
- Vegetable Oil: Or any other neutral cooking oil is used to shallow fry the chicken.
- Garlic: We use 2 cloves of fresh minced garlic. You can also substitute the minced garlic for powdered or granulated garlic.
- Honey: The perfect ingredient to bring in a little sweetness to this sticky sauce.
- Soy Sauce: Gives the dish saltiness and umami flavor. Make sure to use low sodium soy sauce to control the salt level.
- Rice Wine Vinegar: Helps to balance the acidity in the sauce.
- Sweet Thai Chili Sauce: Adds more sweetness and flavor. If you have never had sweet Thai chili sauce you are missing out! You can find it in the International isle of the grocery store or online here.
- Sriracha: Gives this dish a hint of spice. Add more or less depending on your taste.
- Sesame Oil: For some added nutty flavor. A little goes a long way.
How to Make Sticky Asian Chicken Bites
- Marinate your chicken: Start by adding the cubed chicken, soy sauce and cornstarch to a medium bowl and toss to coat the chicken. Allow the chicken to marinade for 15 minutes while you are prepping the rest of your ingredients.
-
Cook chicken bites: Heat 3 tbsp of oil in a large skillet with high sides. When the oil is nice and hot add in the chicken and cook for 3-4 minutes a side or until the chicken is fully cooked.
-
Make sauce: Heat oil in a small saucepan. Add in garlic and cook for 1-2 minutes or until the garlic becomes fragrant and starts to brown. Add in honey, soy sauce, sriracha, sesame oil, sweet thai chili sauce and rice wine vinegar. Whisk and bring the sauce to a simmer. Meanwhile add cornstarch and water to a small bowl and whisk until smooth and lump free. Slowly add the cornstarch slurry to the saucepan and whisk until the sauce is thickened. It should be able to coat the back of a spoon.
-
Add the sauce to the skillet with the chicken and toss to combine. Serve immediately with sesame seeds and green onions for garnish!
Tips and Variations
- Serve this delicious Asian style chicken recipe with white or brown rice. For a low carb option try it out with cauliflower rice instead.
- Make sure to use both hands when breading the chicken. One hand for wet ingredients and one hand for dry. This helps from getting the dreaded breading hands.
- Top the chicken bites with green onions and extra sesame seeds.
- Want more heat? Add in fresh or dried chiles or crushed red pepper flakes. Chili garlic sauce would also be so good on this!
- Want less spice? Skip the sriracha!

Hi! I made the sriracha chicken a while back and it was a huge hit! I tripled the sauce.
I tried the super sticky Asian bites tonight and It was waaaaay too salty! No one could finish it! The sriracha only called for 3 Tbs soy sauce but this one called for a half cup! I tripled it as well and it used the entire bottle! Was the soy sauce in the recipe a mistake?
Thanks!
Kelley
Hi Cheryl!
I’m so glad you liked the sriracha chicken. I am so sorry you did not have success with this recipe. I use low sodium soy sauce in this recipe. To me it makes a huge difference. Did you use low sodium soy sauce or regular?
Thanks!
Kelley
Jacqui
I only had regular Soy Sauce, so I increased the honey and Sriracha in the recipe. I can tell you my house smells amazing, and my husband just walked in the door to eat. It’s going to be amazing!! Thanks for sharing the recipe!
Kelley
Thanks Jacqui! Hope you and your Husband enjoy!

I wish I would have read the comments first. I love salt. I salt food before I taste it. I never use low sodium soy sauce. I wish I would have. It was too salty for anyone to finish but me and I had trouble. I loved the crunch and the stickiness but wow was it way too salty. I’ll try low sodium next time!
Julie Parnell
I can’t wait to try this. Thank you!
Lynn
Chicken itself came out great. I used regular soy sauce and it was way too salty. Tossed out sauce and wound up dipping chicken in bbq sauce.
Follow recipe with low sodium and it will probably be fine.
Gary
It is pretty messed up when people like Becky make a recipe based on not following the recipe. Then say if I had followed the recipe it probably would have turned out better. Modified it for gluten free and loved it thanks!
Brian
I used low sodium soy sauce (LaChoy Lite) and it was still way too salty. Maybe another brand?
Nathan
Hi Brian,
I’m sorry it was so salty. I typically use Kikkomam for soy sauce, and I’m not sure the sodium level of the LaChoy. However, you can replace a Tablespoon or 2 with water to cut down on the saltiness. Thank you so much for trying out the recipe and for the comment!
