The best Crispy Asian Chicken Bites Recipe

These Crispy Asian Chicken Bites are guilt free because they are baked and not fried. The chicken is tossed in a sweet and spicy Asian sauce made of soy sauce, sesame oil, garlic and honey. The sauce is a bit spicy thanks to the sriracha and crushed red pepper flakes. This is the perfect finger food for the holidays or game day!

These chicken bites are simple, flavorful and dripping with sauce.

The chicken is extra crunchy thanks to the panko breading. A simple 3 step breading made of flour, egg and panko breadcrumbs.

Tender on the inside with a nice crunch on the outside. Just how I like my chicken!

Pro Tip! When breading your chicken, make sure to use both hands. One hand for wet ingredients and one hand for dry. This helps from getting the dreaded breading hands!

    Ingredients Needed

    • Chicken Breast: I prefer to use chicken breast for these sesame chicken bites, but you can use boneless, skinless chicken thighs if you prefer!
    • Flour: First, dredge the chicken pieces in flour. This will help the egg stick to the chicken!
    • Egg: Whisk up an egg and place it in a shallow bowl. After dipping the chicken pieces into the flour, dip them in the egg. This will ensure that the breadcrumbs stick.
    • Panko Breadcrumbs: Panko breadcrumbs are best, since they will make these chicken bites extra crispy!

For the Sweet & Spicy Sauce

    • Garlic Cloves: Use freshly chopped garlic cloves for a savory flavor.
    • Honey: Honey will balance out the flavors and make the sauce slightly sticky!
    • Soy Sauce: Soy sauce makes the sauce perfectly savory and seasoned.
    • Red Pepper Flakes: For a little bit of heat!
    • Sesame Seeds: Sesame seeds add a little crunch and make these crispy Asian chicken bites reminiscent of sesame chicken.
    • Sriracha: Add to taste, depending on how spicy you want the sauce.
    • Sesame Oil: For an extra nutty flavor.
    • Cornstarch & Water: Use a cornstarch slurry (cornstarch and water) to thicken up the sauce!

How to make Crispy Asian Chicken Bites

    1. Preheat & Prep Chicken: Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Start by breading your chicken. Then, dip the pieces of chicken into a shallow bowl of flour, then egg, then the panko breadcrumbs.
    2. Bake: Line the chicken onto a greased baking sheet (I used a bit of oil to grease my baking sheet.) Place in the oven and bake for 15 minutes until fully cooked.
    3. Make the Sauce: While the chicken is baking, make the sauce. Heat oil in a medium saucepan. Add garlic and sauté for one minutes. Add in honey, soy sauce, red pepper flakes, sesame seeds, sriracha, and sesame oil. Bring to a simmer.
    4. Add Cornstarch Slurry: Meanwhile, add cornstarch and water to a small bowl and whisk until combined. Add the cornstarch slurry to the sauce and bring to a simmer. Allow the sauce to simmer until it is nice and thick. Keep the sauce on low heat until ready to toss with the chicken.
    5. Toss Chicken with Sauce & Serve: Take the chicken out of the oven and toss with the sweet and spicy Asian sauce. Top with scallions and sesame seeds for garnish if desired. Serve immediately as an appetizer or with rice to make it a meal. Enjoy!

    Tips for Success

    • Place chicken in a single layer! Place the coated chicken pieces in a single layer on the baking sheet. Make sure there is space between each piece to allow hot air to circulate and crisp up all sides.
    • Dice chicken into evenly sized pieces. To ensure that all of the chicken bites are done at the same time, do your best to cut the chicken pieces to evenly sized pieces!
    • Serve immediately! These easy baked crispy chicken bites are best served immediately after baking to maintain their crispiness.
    • To reheat, place the chicken bites in the oven, toaster over or air fryer until heated through to ensure crispiness!
