honey soy chicken stir fry
I love stir-fry meals because they’re quick and easy. Perfect for a busy weeknight! This is a super easy meal that can be made in under 30 minutes. Everything is made in one pan making for an easy clean up.
They’re also versatile and can be made in many different ways depending on what you have on hand. I made this honey garlic chicken stir fry with lots of broccoli. You can always substitute the broccoli with carrots, bell peppers or cauliflower!
For me the trick to an awesome stir fry is a hot pan. I like to cook the chicken in batches so it stays nice and crispy. I also cook the broccoli over high heat just until it is caramelized on the outside and it still has a nice crunch to it.
After the chicken and broccoli have cooked, I add them back to the pan along with the sauce ingredients. I like to add soy sauce, honey, and water. That’s it!

Ingredients
- Broccoli: I like using a bag of pre-washed broccoli florets to keep things simple, but you could break apart a crown of broccoli. Stems and flowers, too!
- Chicken Breasts: Boneless, skinless thighs also work. Just depends on your preference!
- Garlic: Adds a bit of spice and vibrant flavor to that delicious sauce.
- Soy Sauce: I recommend using low-sodium t better control the amount of salt in this dish, but use what you’ve got!
- Honey: Granulated sugar or agave nectar would also work, but honey imparts the best flavor for the sauce, in my opinion.
- Sesame Oil: A little bit goes a long way and offers a ton of deeply rich, roasted sesame flavor!
- Cornstarch: This is what makes that luscious sauce so velvety and thick!
How To Make Honey Garlic Chicken Stir Fry
- Sauté the Broccoli: Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a large skillet. Add in the broccoli and sauté until tender and caramelized, 4-5 minutes. Remove from the pan and set aside.
- Cook the Chicken: Add the remaining tablespoon of oil to the same pan. I cook my chicken in two batches to ensure it gets crispy and caramelized on the outside. Add the garlic and cook for an additional minute.
- Make the Sauce: Meanwhile, in a small bowl combine soy sauce, water, honey and sesame oil. Add the sauce to the pan along with the broccoli.
- Add the sauce to the pan along with the broccoli. In a small bowl mix the cornstarch with a tablespoon of cold water. Slowly whisk in the cornstarch mixture into the sauce. Simmer until the sauce has thickened, 1-2 minutes.
- Season with salt and pepper and serve immediately with sesame seeds for garnish, if desired.
Storage Instructions
- Store any cooled leftover honey garlic chicken stir fry in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days. Great for meal-prepping ahead of a busy week!
- Freeze in a freezer-safe, airtight plastic bag (flat) for up to 2 months.
- Reheat in a skillet or in the microwave until bubbling and warmed through.

Tips and Variations
- Sauté the chicken so that it gets browned on all sides to create a crust on the outside that seals in all of that delicious juice on the inside.
- Double or even triple the sauce for this honey garlic chicken stir fry to freeze for later!
- Change up the protein by swapping shrimp, tofu, or cubed steak.
- Or keep it vegetarian-friendly by adding more veggies! Asparagus, cauliflower, sugar snap peas, and zucchini (especially zucchini noodles) would be delicious additions.
- Spice it up by adding some sriracha, chili oil, red pepper flakes, or cayenne pepper to the sauce.

Family loved it! My hubby who loves Chinese food (unlike me) mentioned it would be nice to see a bit more color, like some red, yellow, and/or green pepper, maybe some red pepper flakes and/or cashews.

This was super easy and so delicious! Even my picky husband liked it!

This is one of my favorite go-to recipes to make. Amazing flavor and so easy to make. I tend to add extra veggies (like onions or green beans) alongside the broccoli. I’ve never made this without it being gobbled up by everyone and people fighting for the last serving. 10/10 recommend!!

I’m about to start cooking this dish but I still feel like I can give this 5 ⭐ for now. I have a honey garlic chicken recipe for the instant pot that is very similar. And the ingredients are the same for the sauce & that’s where the wonderful flavor comes in to play. So I’m pretty confident this will be good as well. And I knew I would forget to leave my review (unless it was bad) if I didn’t do it now.

So the recipe tastes great but if I were a newbie I wouldn’t have a clue how high to turn the heat up to. No where does he say medium low, medium high- nothing. So to be clear the food tastes great but I suggest better instructions.

This is my first time making this and I’m trying to get better at cooking. Do you have all the measurements. Like the sauces and cornstarch and honey? Thanks.
Kelley Simmons
Yes all of the measurements are in the recipe card at the bottom of the post. Thanks!

This is a good recipe but it doesn’t say how high the heat needs to be. So I finally got it to where it needs to be. I did some research & most other stir fry recipes say medium high heat. It turned out great. Thank you.
