Monster Energy Balls
If you are a fan of monster cookies like I am, you are going to absolutely love this healthier version! Monster cookie energy bites have some delicious ingredients like peanut butter, M&M’s, chocolate chips and oats. They are a sweet treat that are packed with nutrients, making them the perfect go-to snack or dessert!
If you need an easy snack or dessert to pop into your kid’s lunch boxes or to have on hand when that sweet tooth hits, look no further! Making homemade energy bites is as simple as mixing the ingredients together and chilling in the fridge. No need to turn on the oven for these little protein packed treats!
ingredients needed
- Creamy Peanut Butter: Peanut butter adds protein and helps these energy bites to stick together! You can use any nut butter you would like.
- Old Fashioned Oats: I like using old fashioned oats here. They are hearty and packed with nutrients and fiber!
- Ground Flax Seed: Adds a boost of fiber and healthy fats! If you don’t have ground flax seed, feel free to substitute it with hemp seeds, chia seeds or simply add some extra oats in there.
- Honey: For a touch of sweetness! You could substitute maple syrup or agave however I find that honey is stickier then the two and tends to help keep the energy balls together.
- Mini m & m’s: Some mini m & m’s turn these from normal energy balls into monster energy balls!
- Mini Chocolate Chips: For some extra chocolatey goodness, I like to add mini semi-sweet chocolate chips here too!
- Vanilla Extract: For extra flavor!
How to Make Monster Energy Balls
- Combine Ingredients: Add all of the ingredients to a medium bowl.
- Mix: Mix to combine and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
- Assemble: Using wet hands, roll into 12 bites and store in the fridge for up to a week.
Tips for Success
- Don’t skip the chill time! Make sure to roll the bites into balls after the mixture has been refrigerated! This will make the process a lot easier. If you are still struggling to roll these you can add a splash of water to the mixture.
- Make into bars instead! If you prefer making granola bars, you can put the mixture into a baking dish lined with parchment paper and cut the mixture into homemade granola bars!
- Try different additions! This energy ball recipe uses fillings that would usually be found in monster cookies, but you can add different ingredients like nuts, shredded coconut, raisins or dried fruit.
Frequently Asked Questions
How should I store monster energy balls?
Store these in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week!
Can I freeze these energy balls?
Definitely! Freeze them on a parchment lined baking sheet first, and then place them all in a freezer safe container for up to 2 months. To serve, let them thaw at room temperature for about 30 minutes or place them in the fridge. You can also eat them frozen!
Why are my energy bites difficult to roll into balls?
If you are having difficulty rolling these into balls, make sure that you chilled them in the fridge first. Then, use wet hands to roll them together so that the mixture doesn’t stick to your hands. If you need to, you can spray your hands with cooking spray to help even more with the stickiness!
