How to make Baked Sweet Potato Fries with Spicy Ketchup
Sweet Potatoes
- Season Potatoes. Simply cut potatoes, toss with olive oil and sprinkle on the seasonings.
- Bake. Place in the oven and bake for 25-30 minutes until crispy and tender. Make sure to rotate the fries.
- Season again, cool, & Enjoy! After the fries come out of the oven I sprinkle them with just a little more kosher salt, Parmesan cheese, and parsley.
Spicy Ketchup
- Combine ingredients in a saucepan.
- Simmer for about 5 minutes.
- Enjoy. Serve alongside sweet potato fries.
Tips For The Best Sweet Potato Fries
- I used 1 1/2 sweet potatoes for this recipe because my sweet potatoes were very large. This will serve about 2 people. A good rule of thumb is 1 medium potato per person.
- I like to peel my sweet potatoes before cutting them into fries. You can leave the skin on or off, whatever you prefer. I like to cut my potatoes about a 1/4 inch thick.
- These sweet potato fries are served with spicy ketchup which is the perfect pairing for this sweet potato dish.
How do I make my sweet potato fries crunchy in the oven?
Sweet potato fries are harder to get crispier in the oven than regular potatoes. To keep them crispy I like to place them in a single layer on a baking sheet. (Allowing them to overlap will cause the fries to steam and not crisp up.)
It is also helpful to add a sprinkle of cornstarch to your fries before baking. About 1-2 tablespoons will do the trick for a crispier fry. I skipped the cornstarch in this recipe because I prefer my fries on the softer side.
The fries will get a little brown on the edges as well. Don’t worry! It develops a nice caramelized flavor.
Can I store sweet potato fries in the refrigerator?
In the chance that you might have leftovers, you can store them in the refrigerator in an airtight container or zip lock for 3-5 days. When you are ready to reheat, place on a baking sheet and warm-up fries in a 425-degree oven for 10-15 minutes or until crispy.

iI love sweet potatoes and can’t wait to try these, but since I do like my fries crispy I would like to add the corn starch. Would you suggest tossing the sweet potatoes with the corn starch before or after tossing with the oil? Thanks for sharing.
Kelley
Hi Trisha,
I would suggest tossing the potatoes with the cornstarch first (ziploc bag works great for this) make sure you toss enough to remove any clumps of cornstarch. Then I would toss with the olive oil and seasonings.
Hope you enjoy them!
