I am a huge taco lover. Wrap anything up in a toasted flour tortilla and odds are I’ll eat it. These Ahi Tuna Tacos are amazing! Loaded with fresh ingredients: cilantro, radishes, cabbage, and topped with seared ahi tuna. These Ahi Tuna Tacos can be made in under 20 minutes! Feel free to substitute your favorite veggies. I like anything that adds a bit of a crunch to these tacos!
The best part of these tacos is the Sriracha mayo. It’s creamy, spicy, and the perfect complement to the tuna. Adjust the amount of Sriracha you add to the taste. I like it on the spicy side so I always add more.
The tuna gets seared in a hot pan until it gets a golden-brown crust. Then it gets sliced into super thin slices. It’s melt-in-your-mouth tender and full of flavor! Here’s what you’ll need to make these Tuna Tacos:

Ingredients
- Ahi Tuna Steak: To make Ahi Tuna Tacos, you want to find a good quality tuna steak. Yellowtail is the most common, and there is also the option of bigeye or bluefin tunas.
- Taco Seasoning: You can make your own homemade version or just use store-bought.
- Flour Tortillas: I like the softness and taste of flour tortillas best! However, you can use your favorite tortillas, whether is corn, low carb, or gluten-free, any will be great.
- Cabbage: To save time I used the pre-shredded bagged cabbage mix.
- Radishes: Radishes are a little peppery but fairly neutral in taste. They compliment this dish in both color and their crunchy texture.
- Cilantro: A pop of freshness is so delicious in savory recipes, so I added chopped fresh cilantro as a garnish.
- Mayo: Use whatever mayonnaise you have on hand!
- Sriracha: This is a sweet-spicy sauce that I mix with the mayo to drizzle over the tacos. It can be found in the international aisle at most grocery stores.
- Lime Juice: Fresh lime juice is ideal for this tuna tacos recipe. Lemon juice can be substituted if you can’t find any limes, or you can use prepackaged lime juice.
How to make Ahi Tuna Tacos
- Sear Tuna: Heat oil in a saute pan. Meanwhile, pat the tuna dry with paper towels. Sprinkle the seasoning on all sides of the tuna. Once the pan is hot add tuna and sear on all sides until golden brown. Remove from the pan and allow the tuna to rest before slicing into thin slices.
- Make Sriracha Mayo: Add mayonnaise, Sriracha, and lime juice to a small bowl and whisk to combine. Set aside until you are ready to eat your tacos.
- Assemble: Place a sprinkle of cabbage onto each taco and place some radishes on top. Top with pieces of tuna and a sprinkle of cilantro and sesame seeds on top, if desired.
- Serve: Immediately with a drizzle of Sriracha mayo, sesame seeds, and cilantro!

Tips for Success
- The cooked Ahi Tuna should be pink inside. It will be tender, juicy and so delicious. If you’re not a fan of eating rare meat, you can cook it a little more, but I don’t recommend it, as the fish can dry out pretty quickly.
- I like to add sesame oil to my Sriracha Mayo! It tastes amazing. Check out my Spicy Mayo recipe for full instructions.
- This Ahi Tuna Tacos recipe is great for meal prep! Cook and slice the tuna, and then store it in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days. Whip up the sriracha mayo and store it in a separate airtight container. It should last for a week or more. When you’re ready to eat, assemble fresh tacos and dig in!
Frequently Asked Questions
- What fish is best for tacos? I am a HUGE fan of ahi tuna tacos! You can cook them to rare or medium-rare, and they taste fresh and juicy. Other fish varieties that I enjoy in tacos are salmon, tilapia, smoked mackerel, and any neutral white fish like cod.
- What is the difference between tuna steak and ahi tuna? “Ahi” is a word in Hawaiian that means “yellowtail tuna”, so when talking about Ahi Tuna, it just refers to the type of fish. Tuna steak, however, is a cut of meat that can be grilled, baked, or pan-fried.
- How done should ahi tuna be cooked? I recommend simply searing ahi tuna in a very hot pan on both sides for no more than a minute. It’s very fast! That way the outside of the tuna is a beautiful golden brown, and the inside is still pink and tender.
- Can you eat raw ahi tuna? Yes, it is delicious! Ahi tuna is a sushi-grade cut of meat which means it can safely be eaten raw. It is what you find in sushi rolls as well.
