Slow cookers are a great way to cook pulled pork low and slow without keeping the oven on all day. The meat ends up super tender, juicy and loaded with flavor. These Pulled Pork Sandwiches are really easy to make and are pretty much impossible to mess up.

When I say this Slow Cooker Pulled Pork is easy to make I mean it. I place the pork roast in the slow cooker overnight and when I wake up I have perfectly cooked tender pulled pork. I like to cook the pulled pork overnight and place in the fridge to reheat for dinner. You will need 11 hours to cook this pulled pork so make sure you give yourself enough time to cook.

The roast gets cooked in a homemade dry rub made of garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, chili powder, brown sugar, salt and pepper. There is no liquid added to the slow cooker.

  • This looks great Kelley! We’re totally on the same wavelength again because I’ve got something similar coming up! But I’ve never actually used a slow cooker before- do you use the standalone type or one of those rice cooker/slow cooker combos?

  • Who doesn’t love a good pulled pork sandwich? And with summer right around the corner, this recipe would be perfect for a picnic or barbeque! I love that you did it in the crock pot, making it fuss free! My co-blogger and I would love to have you check us out sometime over at InPSCYHfulliving.com where we dish about mindful, beauty, style and living tips 🙂

  • These look delicious! Pulled pork is one of my favorites and I always order it when I see it on a menu.

Have you ever tried cooking the pork in the slow cooker with root beer? It works really well. I need to post that recipe, but I want to try your method too.

  • Marsha

Do any of you guys sear the meat first? I do with the Roast but should it be done with Pork as well?

    • Hi Marsha!

You can absolutely sear the pork before adding it to the slow cooker for added flavor!

      Thanks,

      Kelley

  • Jennifer

I couldn’t find a bonless pork shoulder so I have a almost 10 pound porkloin, how long would you say to cook that if this 4 1/2 pounder takes 10/12 hours?

    • Hi Jennifer,

It is hard to say for sure because I have not made this before with pork loin. I don’t think the pork loin will take as long to cook versus pork shoulder. I would try cooking for 6 hours and check to see if meat is tender. If not keep cooking.

      Thanks!

I made this today for our Memorial Day dinner. I fed numerous family members and every single one of them absolutely loved it. It was perfect with my cheesy potatoes and pasta salad! I love that it cooked overnight while I slept LOL… I will say I used 2 and 1/2 cups of barbecue sauce instead of 1 and 1/2 cups. So glad I came across this recipe!

What to try this but wondering if u can put a frozen pork in slow cooker and for how long do u cook it for and on what low or high? TY

    • Hi Gary!

It will take a lot longer with a frozen pork shoulder roast. It’s hard to say how long I would maybe do low for 10 hours then check it or high for 5-6 hours.

      Thanks!

      Kelley

  • Chrissy

Can I cook it, rest it, shred it, put in fridge and heat up 6 or 7 hours later? Does it dry out? I was planning to place it back in my slow cooker to gently reheat for dinner that night. I have a lot of people coming over and getting tis done in advance would be great!

    • Hi Chrissy!

No I think that will be perfect. You can put it back in the slow cooker on low to warm up.

      Thanks & Enjoy!

      Kelley

  • Reagan

Can you make this ahead of time, and freeze for later?

    • Hi Reagan,

Yes you can make this ahead of time and freeze for later!

      Thank you!

      Kelley

  • Natalie

My pork shoulder is about 9lbs. How long on a crockpot on high? Thanks

    • Hi Natalie,

I would still recommend cooking on low for 10 hours. It should be done by then if not i’d give it an extra hour or two.

      Thanks!

      Kelley

  • Donna Reich

I’m needing to feed 15 people. How big of pork shoulder I get? And how much to increase ingredients?
    Thank you.

    • Nathan

      Hi Donna,

So, Pork Shoulder will lose weight as it cooks. You will get just over half the yield of what you started with. Doubling the recipe should give you a good amount if you are serving it with other things. If it is by itself I would have a little bit more, Closer to 10-12 pounds of raw meat to start. I hope this is helpful, Thank you so much for trying out the recipe!
