Hoisin Chicken Lettuce Wraps are my go-to easy meal. All of the ingredients can be prepped the night before and takes only 15 minutes to throw together. I marinate the chicken overnight then when I am ready to eat I grill it until it’s nice and crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. This chicken has so much flavor!

The sauce is made up of hoisin sauce, soy sauce, sriracha, rice wine vinegar, garlic, and ginger. It’s not too spicy and has the perfect amount of sweetness and tang.

Serve these lettuce wraps with sticky rice or vegetable spring rolls to make it a meal! Check out my list below for other serving options!

What you’ll need for this recipe

    • Chicken: I diced up boneless skinless chicken breasts to keep this lettuce wraps recipe light and healthy. Boneless skinless thighs or turkey breast would also work.
    • Lettuce: Bibb lettuce or Boston lettuce are perfect choices as they are pliable and don’t rip easily.
    • Garnish: I love to sprinkle toasted sesame seeds at the end. They have a lovely texture and add a nutty flavor profile.

    Lettuce Wrap Sauce

    • Hoisin sauceSweet and tangy, hoisin sauce can be easily found in the international aisle of most grocery stores.
    • Rice vinegar: This key ingredient adds acidity, and is also found in the international aisle of most grocery stores. White wine vinegar is a great substitute.
    • Ginger & garlic: Minced fresh garlic and ginger pack in a ton of flavor! To save time you can also use pre-minced garlic and ginger, and sometimes you can find it in paste form as well.
    • Soy Sauce: For saltiness and umami I add low sodium soy sauce. Regular soy sauce is a great option too although it may need to be watered down slightly. If you need these wraps to be gluten-free, try gluten-free soy sauce or tamari.
    • Sriracha: Finally, sriracha brings a sweet and spicy kick. It’s addictive! You could add 1 teaspoon of honey mixed with 1 teaspoon of mild chili powder if you don’t have sriracha on hand.

How to Make Healthy Chicken Lettuce Wraps

    1. Mix up the sauce ingredients and marinate the chicken in half of the sauce for at least an hour or overnight.
    2. When you are ready to eat preheat your grill to 400 degrees. Grill chicken until fully cooked, about 4-6 minutes on each side (depending on the thickness of your chicken)
    3. Heat the remaining sauce in a medium saucepan to warm up.
    4. Cube up the grilled chicken and toss in the remaining sauce.
    5. Serve immediately over bib lettuce with sesame seeds. That’s it!

Tips for making Chicken Lettuce Wraps

    • Always allow the chicken to rest before slicing into it. This helps keep the chicken moist and tender.
    • Double the sauce! That way you have extra for dipping or drizzling over the lettuce wraps.
    • Don’t stop at just sesame seeds! Add crushed peanuts or sliced carrots or cucumber on top!
    • Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days. Store the lettuce separately.
    • Reheat the chicken in the microwave, in a pan on the stove, or in the oven until piping hot.

What goes well with chicken lettuce wraps?

There are so many ways to serve lettuce wraps! Serve with a side of rice or cauliflower fried rice to make it a meal, or make a few little plates, dim sum style!

What kind of lettuce do you use with lettuce wraps?

There are a few kinds that work! You’re looking for a sturdy leaf that won’t break easily when held, which is also deep enough to hold the filling without it falling out. I recommend bibb lettuce and Boston lettuce, however, iceberg lettuce or little gem lettuce are great options as well.

How many carbs are in a chicken lettuce wrap?

Each serving has 2 Hoisin Chicken Lettuce Wraps, which comes in at 9g carbs per wrap, and 8g net carbs per wrap.

    What is lettuce wrap sauce?

Lettuce wrap sauce is the sauce that the chicken marinades in before cooking, and it also gets drizzled over the lettuce wraps to finish off. My lettuce wrap sauce consists of hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, fresh ginger, fresh garlic, soy sauce, and sriracha. It is a flavor bomb!
