    Healthy Greek Yogurt Guacamole

Have you guys tried Trader Joe’s reduced guilt guacamole? It is AMAZING! It’s super creamy and tastes just like restaurant-quality guacamole but with fewer calories.

I discovered that the secret is Greek yogurt, which keeps the guacamole creamy, lowers calories, and also adds tons of protein. The Greek yogurt adds about 6 grams of protein to this recipe and gives it a super creamy texture.

So I decided to make my own version of this healthy Greek yogurt guacamole at home. I kept things simple, mixing just Greek yogurt, avocado, lime juice, cilantro, red onion and jalapeño. The result was delicious, rich and creamy guacamole that really did rival my favorite restaurant version! I love serving this guacamole with my homemade tortilla chips. It’s my favorite snack, just a bit healthier.

    Ingredients

    • Avocado: Make sure you choose a nice ripe avocado for your guacamole recipe! Look for avocados that are darker in color and feel a tad bit soft when you apply pressure.
    • Greek yogurt: You can use full- or non-fat Greek yogurt. You can substitute plain yogurt or sour cream if needed.
    • Produce: I kept things simple with this healthy Greek yogurt guacamole recipe, including only tomatoes, chopped red onion, and jalapeño.
    • Other ingredients: You will also need chopped cilantro, lime juice, and salt and pepper for this quick recipe.

How to make Healthy Greek Yogurt Guacamole

    1. Mix ingredients: First combine all of the ingredients in a medium bowl. Then mix to combine, making sure not to mash up all of the avocado.
    2. Season to taste: Next season to taste with salt and pepper.
    3. Serve and enjoy: Finally, serve your healthy Greek yogurt guacamole immediately with your favorite chips!

Tips for making Greek Yogurt Guacamole

    • Turn up the heat: Jalapeños are added to this healthy Greek yogurt guacamole for a little bit of spice, plus the red onion for some color. This salsa is not overly spicy by any means — it just adds a little kick. You can add the seeds of the jalapeño or use a spicier salsa if you are looking to add more heat to your guacamole recipe.
    • Don’t forget the drinks: I love a good margarita with my chips and guacamole — it just feels right! Wash this healthy Greek yogurt guacamole down with my Classic Margarita or a Mojito.
    • Make it vegan: Love the guac but not the dairy? To make this recipe dairy-free and vegan-friendly, you can simply substitute plain vegan yogurt or vegan sour cream or vegan yogurt.
    • Store it right: Storing leftover guacamole is not always easy — no one likes the browning process that always seems to happen as soon as you shut the fridge door. I have found that storing the guacamole in an airtight container, then flattening the top and covering tightly with plastic wrap, is the best way to keep it fresh. You can also add a small layer of water or lime juice to help keep the air out of the guacamole.
