The Best Pork Fried Rice Recipe
It is no secret here that I love fried rice. And this pork fried rice is no different. Pork fried rice is easy to make, super flavorful, and is a one pan meal that the whole family will love!
You can pack as many vegetables into this pork fried rice recipe as you wish. I like mine with a lot of veggies, and I could add even more and still love it! It makes great leftovers, which means this is a wonderful meal prep recipe, too!
This recipe starts with cold already cooked rice. If you know you are going to want to make this pork fried rice recipe beforehand, make sure to make the rice with plenty of time for it to cool before being used here!
Ingredients Needed
FOr the Pork
- Pork Tenderloin: Dice it up into bite-sized cubes!
- Light Brown Sugar: A little brown sugar will help the edges caramelize and get crunchy in the pan!
- Sesame Oil: For a slight nutty flavor.
- Soy Sauce: This will serve as the salt here and provide a deep, umami flavor!
- Cornstarch: This also helps the pork to get crispy edges while still maintaining a moist center.
For the Fried Rice
- Butter: This is the secret ingredient that is the key to making delicious, restaurant quality fried rice! It might seem like a lot of butter, but compared to what the hibachi restaurants use, this is not a lot. It will add flavor and really crisp up the rice nicely!
- Eggs: Scramble the eggs until they are just cooked!
- Vegetables: I used onion, carrots, garlic and peas here. I like my pork fried rice to have a lot of veggies!
- Rice: You will need already cooked, cold white rice. I think long grain white rice is best!
- Soy Sauce & Oyster Sauce: A combination of soy sauce and oyster sauce offer a deep umami flavor!
- Sesame Oil: For just a hint of nutty flavor.
How to Make This pork fried rice
- Marinate the Pork: Add cubed pork, brown sugar, sesame oil, soy sauce and cornstarch to a medium bowl. Toss to combine and let marinate at room temperature for 10-15 minutes.
- Cook the Pork: When you are ready to cook, heat oil in a large skillet over medium high heat. Add in pork and let it cook undisturbed for 2 minutes, flip then cook for an additional 3-4 minutes or until its golden brown on the outside and cooked through on the inside. Remove from the pan and set aside.
- Cook the Eggs: To the same skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of butter into a large skillet. Add the eggs and scramble until fully cooked. Remove them from the pan and set aside.
- Add Veggies: Add the remaining tablespoon of butter into the pan. Add carrots and onion to the pan and cook until tender, 3-4 minutes. Stir in garlic and cook for an additional minute.
- Add Rice: Add in the cold rice and peas and sauté for 3-4 minutes. The rice should brown up a bit.
- Combine Everything: Add the eggs and pork back into the pan and stir in soy sauce, oyster sauce, and sesame oil. Cook for 1-2 minutes to heat through. Serve immediately with green onions for garnish, if desired.
Tips for Success
- You absolutely must have cooked, chilled rice for this fried rice recipe. If you add hot rice that you just cooked to the pan, it will become mushy and all the rice will stick together.
- Plan ahead! If you don’t have leftover rice already on hand, you can cook the rice as normal then spread it out in a layer on a sheet pan and top it with plastic wrap. Place the sheet pan in the freezer you will have fully cold rice ready for you to use in about 20-30 minutes.
- Add more veggies! So many different vegetables would be delicious in pork fried rice. If you want to add additional vegetables, try adding broccoli or cauliflower, zucchini, mushrooms, or corn!

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best rice for fried rice?
It is best to use a long grain white rice like jasmine rice since it has less starch, creating fluffy and soft rice! A short grain rice like sushi rice would not work well here, since it would cause the rice to be squishy and clumpy.
What should I serve with pork fried rice?
Pork fried rice is a simple meal that can be enjoyed on its own, or you can pair it with a variety of sides to make it a heartier meal! I like serving mine with egg rolls, crab rangoon, or chicken dumplings and a simple cucumber salad.
